LDRSTwo women from Sheffield have successfully campaigned for a zebra crossing to be installed where a child was knocked over by car.
Sheffield City Council has approved the crossing on Birley Spa Lane near Birley Spa Primary Academy and St John Fisher Catholic Primary School.
Caron Britton and Jayne Mason have lobbied since 2022 due to fears a pedestrian could be killed at the spot.
“We’re just so pleased that it’s coming,” Ms Mason said.
Ms Britton, a parent governor at Birley Spa Primary Academy, told the council’s transport committee a boy broke his collarbone after being hit at the location.
Ms Mason, who uses a mobility scooter, described to the local authority how she had a close near-miss with a bus.
LDRSMs Britton said: “One morning a young lad got knocked over – one car stopped to let him cross and another car didn’t think to stop, it’s not a recognised crossing.
“We thought something has got to be done before somebody gets killed on that road.”
Council officials also visited the site to carry out a speed survey.
“They actually saw for themselves how bad it was,” Ms Mason said.
The duo were amazed to learn the overall cost of the project would be more than £145,000.
Ms Mason concluded: “I’m just glad it’s finally been approved – you can’t put a price on safety, you sometimes take your life in your hands there.”
