The Scottish Sun features the same image of Mr Johnson during his visit to a distillery near Elgin in Moray above the headline “Whisky Sour”. The paper reports the prime minister delivered a “double knockback” by ruling out a fresh independence poll, regardless of the SNP’s performance at next month’s general election and in the 2021 Scottish parliamentary election.
Daily Telegraph
As well as the prime minister’s position on Scottish independence, the Daily Telegraph leads with a attack on Jeremy Corbyn from four former Labour MPs. Ian Austin, John Woodcock described Jeremy Corbyn as “unfit to lead” and a “menace”. The paper says Tom Harris and Michael McCann have also said they will vote Conservative next month.

The National leads with the SNP’s campaign pledge, which will be announced later, to bring forward legislation to protect the NHS from privatisation and future trade deals with the US.

The i reports Boris Johnson’s pledge to review alcohol duty and boost the Scottish whisky industry. The paper said the prime minister denied he was “running scared” by holding a campaign event behind closed doors.
The Herald
As well as picture of Mr Johnson’s distillery visit The Herald features an exclusive report about the head of Edinburgh’s Royal College of Surgeons. The paper reveals Alison Rooney, 61, had held the post of chief executive since October 2008, has been removed following a vote of no confidence.

The Scottish Daily Express claims Jeremy Corbyn’s election campaign is “in crisis” following the remarks by the two ex-Labour frontbenchers. The paper says the “plea” from the pair was “incredible”, after serving the Labour Party for most of their lives.

The Scottish Daily Mail also leads with the attack on Mr Corbyn by former Labour frontbenchers on what it described as a “calamitous day” for the party.
The Times
The Times focuses on Labour’s proposals to spend an extra £55bn a year. The director of the Institute for Fiscal Studies has written an article for the paper, saying “there is next to no chance that investment spending could sensibly be increased” by that amount within a year or two. The main picture on the front of the paper is of film star James Dean, whose digital avatar will appear in a new film about the Vietnam War.

The Daily Record leads with the story of a dog owner who taped up her pet’s muzzle and left it with no food or water while she went on holiday. The paper also features pictures of jubilant Celtic and Rangers players after both clubs recorded memorable victories in the Europa League.
