Cumbrian racing driver Jess Edgar has praised the success of the inaugural F1 Academy series in boosting prospects for women in motorsport.
The 18-year-old is the first British, and youngest-so-far, winner in the series, having led home the field in the final race of the season at the Circuit of the Americas in Texas.
F1 Academy is a new, women-only junior series of racing set up by Formula 1 to bring more women into the sport.
“It shows that girls are good enough and girls have a place in motorsport,” said Jess. “There’s a place for us in motorsport and F1 Academy have worked really hard to prove that.”
