She Emerge Global Magazine

This is a significant piece of business by Arsenal before the January transfer window – Mead has had an outstanding year with both club and country.

The news comes while she remains sidelined with an ACL injury – putting her World Cup participation in doubt – and shows the belief the club have in her to bounce back. It is also a clear indication of Mead’s belief in the club’s ambitions – she wants to win titles and would have attracted attention from several of the world’s top teams.

Arsenal have been able to tie down several key players in recent months despite temptation to move elsewhere, including forward Vivianne Miedema in May and England captain Leah Williamson in January.

Their recent progression to the quarter-finals of the Champions League and sitting second in the Women’s Super League suggests they are edging closer to winning silverware for the first time since 2019.

The timing of Mead’s new contract will be most welcome for Arsenal supporters, who were dealt another injury blow on Thursday when Miedema was taken off on a stretcher in the narrow defeat to European champions Lyon.
