A Life of Purpose: The Legacy of Dr. Sakina Quinnell Griggs

In a world where early childhood education and community service often go unrecognized, Dr. Sakina Quinnell Griggs has built a legacy that speaks volumes. A visionary, educator, and advocate, she has dedicated over 30 years to shaping young minds and uplifting families through her work at Agape Kingdom Preschool Institute and beyond. From mental health advocacy to combating homelessness, her life’s work is a testament to resilience, faith, and purpose-driven leadership.

A Calling Rooted in Faith and Service

The foundation of Dr. Sakina Quinnell Griggs’ journey was laid long before she opened the doors of Agape Kingdom Preschool Institute. Raised in a spiritually rich household, she was profoundly influenced by her mother, Archbishop Dr. Eileen V. Martin, and her grandmother, Francis Helen Petty. These two women instilled in her the importance of faith, hard work, and service—principles that have remained central throughout her career.

After graduating from Mumford High School in 1982 and later earning an Associate’s Degree from Wayne County Community College, Dr. Sakina Quinnell Griggs embarked on a career in mental health services. Working with children diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) in a secure mental health facility for over a decade gave her invaluable insight into child development and emotional wellness. However, it was through this experience that she realized her true calling—not just to heal, but to nurture and educate.

Building a Legacy in Early Childhood Education

In February 1991, Dr. Sakina Quinnell Griggs founded Agape Kingdom Preschool Institute, a place where children are not just taught but empowered to grow holistically. For over three decades, she has provided an innovative and personalized learning environment, integrating multicultural education, social-emotional development, and faith-based values.

Her commitment to excellence in early childhood education has earned her numerous accolades, including:

  • The Great Start Quality Certificate of Recognition
  • The Great Start Quality Certificate of Enhancement
  • A Certificate of Excellence from The Victory Church International (TVCI)

But her true reward comes from the generations of students who return as parents to enroll their own children, a powerful testament to the lasting impact of her work.

Triumph Over Challenges

Like any leader, Dr. Sakina Quinnell Griggs’ path has been marked by challenges and sacrifices. Navigating the complexities of running an educational institute, maintaining compliance with regulations, and ensuring financial sustainability has never been easy. However, she credits her faith and determination for guiding her through each obstacle.

“The challenges we face are not meant to break us but to shape us into who we are meant to be,” she reflects.

Her journey has also been deeply personal—balancing the demands of motherhood, leadership, and community service. Yet, through it all, she has remained steadfast in her mission: to give children the best foundation possible.
